No Homeless Shelter at Keele & Wilson

TO MAYOR OLIVIA CHOW AND TO TORONTO CITY COUNCIL:

WHEREAS the City of Toronto is planning to construct a homeless shelter at 1220 Wilson Ave (the “Shelter”);

AND WHEREAS the Shelter would be located between a middle school, a daycare and a playground;

AND WHEREAS the Shelter would be adjacent to the residential community of Downsview;

AND WHEREAS the Shelter will cause an increase crime, violence, drug use and public disturbances in Downsview and in and around the major intersection of Keele & Wilson;  

AND WHEREAS there was no public consultation prior to the selection of 1220 Wilson Avenue as the location of the Shelter;

Therefore, WE, the undersigned, hereby petition Mayor Olivia Chow and Toronto City Council to terminate and abandon any plans to construct a homeless Shelter at 1220 Wilson Avenue, Toronto.
